After years of calls and letters from many grateful CD listeners coping with grief, stress and chronic pain, pianist Henry Wiens recognized that his music had significant healing potential and founded Quiet Heart Music in 2003.
Henry's career as a pianist, arranger, and composer began in the tiny country church his father pastored in Upper Michigan. His gifts of improvisation flowered early as he began to combine traditional gospel music with many other styles. He later refined these talents by studying music theory and composition at the University of Minnesota with internationally acclaimed composers, Dr. Paul Fetler and Dr. Dominick Argento, winner of the 1975 Pulitzer Prize for Music.
Henry’s musical credits include arranging hundreds of recordings for a wide variety of artists, performing ragtime piano for “Sesame Street Live,” co-writing 3 nationally published musicals, and composing music for radio & television, as well as published choral music. Henry has recorded 8 piano solo CDs in addition to 4 albums he produced with Minneapolis "Pavarotti of Gospel", singer Robert Robinson. As a Yamaha artist, Henry's piano artistry is available for Disklavier owners at YamahaMusicSoft.com.
Pre-retirement, Henry performed extensively throughout the nation in venues ranging from music festivals to convention centers to stadiums. Currently Henry enjoys the more relational experience of entertaining smaller groups of seniors in continuing care retirement communities. His extensive repertoire ranges from Broadway to Tony Bennett to the Beatles, not to mention hundreds of hymns, spirituals and gospel songs. (Given Henry's preference for Yamaha keyboards, it's not surprising that he usually provides his own.)
Henry and his wife, Dr. Lisa Wiens, reside in the greater Pittsburgh area and have four daughters - Lora Joy, Stephanie Faith, Joanna Hope and Carolyn Grace - in addition to 4 grandsons, Asher, Isaiah, Oscar and Felix.
